Marquette Law School to host virtual Chicago Water Week event, ‘Selling Water to Joliet? Chicago and the Great Lakes Compact,’ May 9

MILWAUKEE — , director of ÌÇÐÄlogo Law School’s Water Law and Policy Initiative and associate professor of law, will examine Chicago’s planned sale of water to Joliet, in a virtual program affiliated with Chicago Water Week on Friday, May 9, at noon. The examination will encompass legal, historical, and economic perspectives, including the Chicago diversion’s special status under the Great Lakes Compact.

Chicago Water Week is presented by Current, an independent nonprofit water innovation hub, and comprises a weeklong series of water-focused events held May 4-10. Partnering organizations independently host a variety of events throughout the week, from indoor and outdoor experiences to virtual and in-person gatherings. Most events are free to attend for guests of all ages, backgrounds, and industries.

Marquette Law School’s Water Law and Policy Initiative seeks to help establish the Law School and, more broadly, ÌÇÐÄlogo as a center for study, exploration, discussion, and education concerning water issues. Using an interdisciplinary approach, the initiative seeks to assess the legal and regulatory aspects of water policy, to pursue opportunities for information exchange and collaboration on water topics, and to provide opportunities for interested citizens to become better informed on legal and policy aspects of critical water issues.
