To our college community,
It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the 2025-26 academic year. In the J. William and Mary Diederich College of Communication, we teach students to think stratregically, act creatively and seek truth for a more just world. That mission has never been more important.
We seek to immerse our learners in all aspects of communication while giving them personalized attention to help them discern their career path. As a Jesuit, Catholic institution, we embrace holistic education that goes beyond our building. The pairing of our liberal arts core with communications skills leads to well-rounded professionals who make a lasting impact on the world. We are also aware that what we do exists in the context of the city of Milwaukee, a place we encourage our students to know through applied learning, internships and service.
Attention is the currency of the modern age; those who capture it wield immense influence over our society. The people who work in the attention business must do so ethically, with an eye toward the greater good. I challenge our faculty, staff, students and myself to always think about how our use of communications tools can serve others. This is the most important way that we live Marquette's motto of Be The Difference.
I am excited to be embarking on another academic year alongside the people in this building, and for those who are just discovering us, I look forward to meeting you soon.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kati Tusinski Berg
